DDF Hosts Rousing Dialogue with Congressman Jim Moran

Congressman Jim Moran returned to DDF on June 16th and regaled the Forum with an hour and a half discussion that touched on a wide range of topics including trade, health care, energy, education, and acquisition reform. 

Congressman Moran is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and sits on several of its key subcommittees, including: Defense; Interior and Environment; and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.  He was also recently elected to serve as a member of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.

Congressman Moran is a co-founder of the New Democratic Coalition and is a recognized leader on issues pertaining to technology, trade, the environment, fiscal discipline, human rights, and regional transportation issues.  He has also been the chief sponsor of numerous bills and resolutions designed to improve the federal workforce, boost investments in federal research and development, generate defense and technology jobs in Northern Virginia, and advance procurement reform.

Senator Isakson was first elected to the Senate in 2004, after having served three terms in the House of Representatives, 17 years in the Georgia Legislature and three years as Chairman of the Georgia Board of Education.  He currently serves on the following Senate committees:  Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Foreign Relations; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Small Business and Entrepreneurship; Veterans’ Affairs; and is the Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Ethics.

Senator Isakson is one of four new Republicans on the Commerce Committee. He will serve on the following subcommittees:  Aviation Operations, Safety and Security; Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Security; Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard; Science and Space; and Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security. 

Senator Isakson joined DDF recently to disucss several of the issues before the Commerce Committee and other key issues.



Ms. Anna Gomez, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information, NTIA

Anna Gomez was appointed to her joint positions at the Department of Commerce and the NTIA in February 2009.  As Deputy NTIA Administrator, one of her chief duties this year will be to help facilitate the nation’s historic transition to digital television.  NTIA is also responsible for overseeing the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to ensure that ICANN provides technical coordination of the Internet, while offering NTIA’s expertise and advice on related issues. 

As Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information, Ms. Gomez also advises and represents the Executive Branch on both domestic and international telecommunications and information policy issues. 

Ms. Gomez joineed DDF recently to discuss her new position and the new Administration.
